The Studio would like to apologise for a recent error. Last Friday, a number of clients received the wrong set of blueprints. We regret any confusion this may have caused, and we would like to explain what happened.
What happened
On Thursday afternoon, a stack of blueprints was left on the studio floor. Between 2:00 and 4:00 PM, the stack was occupied by Associate Architect Dame Pillow, who is a cat and who regarded the paper as warm. When she moved, the stack had been shuffled.
At 4:15 PM, an intern, who was also a cat, collected the papers and sent them out. He did not check the labels. He later explained that he had been told to “send them” and that he took this to be an instruction.
What was sent
- Mr Dunlop, who had ordered a small bungalow, received plans for a bakery
- Mrs Ferris, who had ordered an extension, received plans for a nuclear bunker
- A local school received a blueprint for a very small cat palace, which they have since built
Responses
Mr Dunlop wrote to say that he was happy to have a bakery and asked if he could keep the plans. We agreed. Mrs Ferris wrote to say that she was “alarmed but interested.” The school wrote to say that the cat palace was a triumph.
“We have never had a mistake that turned out so well.” The school’s head teacher
What we have done
In response, the Studio has taken the following steps.
- All blueprints are now stored in a locked tube
- The tube has a lid
- The lid has a cat on top, who is awake
We have also retrained our intern, who is now responsible for reading things.
A note on liability
The Studio accepts full responsibility for the mix up, though we note that the legal position is unclear, as our insurance policy covers “fire, flood and cat,” and does not distinguish between the three. This is a fictional business and no real client was harmed.
Moving forward
We are committed to doing better. In the meantime, if you received a set of plans for a building you did not order, please keep them, build them and invite us to the opening.
